I still remember the day when a computer programmer friend of mine phoned up and was all excited. Cix has gone graphic he said. What does that mean?, I said. He replied, you can now put pictures on Cix. Cix was what we now refer to as the Internet and he was excited becasue Mosaic had just been launched. Mosaic was the first browser. This was around 1994.
I jumped into my Vauxhall Belmont and drove to his office in Leeds. And that afternoon, we had created our first “Website”. It was awful, so basic, but we were in fact the 398th Website in the UK and got our five minutes of fame in a listing of the first 500 websites in the UK in PC Monthly magazine.
That was how it started, a simple, single page website just over 30 years ago. Since then, so much has changed, but the basic fundamentals of fusing marketing with an online presence have not.
